There are many different classifications of anxiety, including generalized anxiety disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, agoraphobia, panic disorder, specific phobias, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and acute stress disorder. Each of these problems has slightly different symptoms and causes. Sometimes people with anxiety get overwhelmed just trying to make sense of all of this. Some may forgo treatment because of this overwhelms, which is in itself a symptom of anxiety.
The important thing is to break through the confusion and overwhelm by finding a specialist who understands and can treat these disorders in an effective and understanding way.
The clinicians at Park Presidio Counseling Center believe that anxiety is best treated holistically, incorporating techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), relaxation training, hypnotherapy, depth psychology, EMDR and existential/humanistic perspectives.
